We at Symas have been working on the reimplementation of the OpenLDAP backend for Samba for a few years now, Many lessons were learned along the way, and different approaches to the problem were tried with varying success. As of this year's SambaXP, a new approach was discussed with the Samba Team, that could lead to a faster finish and tighter integration with Samba - to attempt to integrate Samba's LDB stack inside OpenLDAP. We will discuss the possible advantages and disadvantages of the approach, and the technical challenges it presents.
