Directory as a Service – Are we there yet ?

Thursday 19th October, from 2 to 2.40 PM

LDAP implementations have come a long way from slapd and slurpd to native cloud born millennials. But core features like replication , access control , entry life cycle management password policy , operational attributes , large static groups and privilege access management still lie in the proprietary space.

The trend we see now is , core directory vendors adding proxy and virtual features combined with virtual directory products adding core directory features . Are all these making LDAP great again ?

This presentation is about real world challenges with large scale LDAP deployments . I would also like to highlight some of the nice to have features in LDAP products in the following areas

  • Authentication
  • Access control
  • Replication
  • Large static groups
  • Indexing
  • Privileged user access
  • High Availability

I have more than 15 years of experience in LDAP space starting with Netscape communications [circa 1990s]. My LDAP journey continued with iplanet , Sun microsystems and branched into large financial companies.

I have unique insights into directory services looking from the product vendors and also from ,”Do we know the root cause , yet ?” clients.
